Curious About Beekeeping? Come Experience It for Yourself

Beekeeping looks fascinating from a distance—but what is it really like when the lid comes off? With Test Drive a Hive, you’ll join us at one of our apiaries, suit up, and experience a real working honey bee colony firsthand. We’ll open the hive together, show you what the bees are doing, and let you experience beekeeping before deciding whether having a hive of your own is right for you.

What You’ll Experience

You’ll suit up with us and head into the apiary for a hands-on look inside a working honey bee colony. We’ll show you the queen, brood, honey and pollen when we can find them, explain what we’re looking for during an inspection, and answer your questions along the way. You’ll get to see, hear, and experience what keeping bees is really like — before investing in hives and equipment of your own.

Beekeeping can be incredibly rewarding, but it’s also a commitment. Before you invest in hives, protective gear, tools, and bees, we want you to know what it actually feels like to stand beside an open colony with thousands of bees working around you. Test Drive a Hive gives you that opportunity in a guided experience with protective equipment. If you walk away thinking, “I want to do this,” then we can help you figure out the next step.

Experience Details

• $25 per person
• Limited to two guests per session
• Approximately one hour
• Participants must be 18 or older
• Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes
• Protective equipment provided; you may bring your own
• Signed liability release required
• Scheduling is weather-dependent
